What is System Danmarc?


System Danmarc is a high profile LARP (Live Action RolePlay) taking place in Copenhagen this fall, but it is not only entertainment. It is as well a political statement that we want to reach far beyond the 300 players that will be part of this event.

The setting is placed in Copenhagen 2043. The welfare system is malfunctional and those who aren't able to take care of themselves gets re-established in "low-priority" zones. The game will take place in one of these zones, "SEKTOR 8", playing inhabitants, all of them more or less social outcast.

The "low-priority" zones was meant to be a temporary sollution, homes made of industrial containers, but because of failing bureaucracy, the settlement becomes permanent. But large unemployment is bad for opinion polls, so a national job-training program gets established, so unemployment drops to nil.. but because of corruption and bad economy, people gets stuck in their social position, so once placed in a "low-priority" zone, there is basically no way out and your ass is owned by the state.. becoming a slave in a fallen sociodemocracy.




The concept is that the players will try to get a taste of what it feels like to live in such a world. Letting them get the feel of how it feels like if democracy isn't excistent anymore.

We don't want to tell people what to think, but we want them to question the democracy they are living in. If take our values for granted, they might suddenly disappear. Once in awhile it do happen that our politicians lie to us, to get various ideas brought through. Take for an example Denmarks involvement in the Iraq war. Has nothing to do with freedom. It is about our largest company Maersk Logistics getting logistic contracts. This is just one out of many examples.



This account will be representing this idea, and will be hosting the works of the danish artists that are part of shaping this idea. Keep updated to follow the process, until we launch it the 7th to 9th october 2005.
